Desolation

You're the new keeper at Site 17. Your job: keep Subject 7 fed, watered and locked in his crate until the full moon.

He's a frightened man in torn scrubs. He begs. He rants. He says the vitamins are changing him, that Crane counts your teeth, that you shouldn't drink from the drop. Your orders say do not answer.

Five nights. The power fails. The generator dies. A pipe bursts in the storm. Something pale comes through the fence. And on the fifth night the moon rises, the bolts on his crate release, and you find out what all that feeding and kindness, or cruelty, was for.

• Five nights to the full moon. Fix the power, weld the crate, hunt past the fence, cook, survive.

• Kindness is never required. Answer him through the slot, leave the light on, give back his family photo. Or use the shock remote. He remembers.

• The full moon ends three ways, decided by how you treated him.

• Story told in pieces: torn journal pages, redacted Program files, and what Subject 7 keeps trying to tell you.

This is the free trial: the first moon. Leave your email at the end to hear when the next one rises.
